Contending with horses

"If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses? …(NKJV) (Jeremiah 12.5)

In this edition of our motivational messages, we set out to observe some of the common challenges we often face as Christians. In order to attain our Godly ordained visions, we definitely need to move beyond battling with men on foot and instead ‘contend with horses’

Eliphaz, a friend of Job said, ‘as surely as sparks fly upward so is man born to trouble (Job 5:7). Counting on this, it implies that there are many challenges that one may face in life and in our walk with God. At each phase of our lives, one needs to contend with certain challenges (horsemen). Sometimes the challenges seem so overwhelming and very discouraging. Jeremiah found himself in a similar situation. He was so distressed and worn out. He resorted to complaining and murmuring about the conditions of his life. However, this is how God replied him.

If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan? (NIV)

No matter what you are going through now, know that you have not completed yet, because you are only racing (competing and contending) with only men on foot (less tougher situations). If you allow this seemingly light problems and challenges to bog you down and wear you out; how can you handle tougher situations (horses).

In order for you to experience your breakthrough in life and possess your possession, you need to contend with certain horses and overcome them. Invariably, horses are ridden by men hence it sounds appropriate to be dealing with various horsemen such as human horsemen, satanic horsemen and angelic horsemen. For instance;

  • Jacob contended with men and angles and overcame them (Gen 32:28)
  • David contended with Goliath and overcame him.
  • Caleb contended with the giants occupying his promised land and drove them out (Joshua 14:12)

Beloved, you need strength and courage (Joshua 1) as well as anointing to contend with certain horsemen in your life. By the anointing Elijah who although was running on foot, outrun Ahab’s horseman. You also need to continually wait on God in order to renew your strength for the Christian race. You need to overcome to be promoted!. May you overcome the horsemen in your life in Jesus name.
